It's been a tense week. No internet, and all that. I'm stressed.
Anyway, I was checking the "little loo" to make sure it was
visitor friendly.
There he was, lying legs-up on the floor - just one antenna twitching
sporadically. In the throes of roach-death, he looked harmless.
I ripped off a couple of sheets of toilet paper and leaned over to pick him
up. As my fingertips closed around his little body, a miracle occurred, and he
scuttled off - resurrected just seconds before he would have been flushed
away.
A tiny squeal escaped my lips, and I hurried out to fetch the can of certain
death.
He was waiting for me, a gleam in his roachie eye. I should have known ...
As I sprayed him, he headed directly for me, and as I jumped he veered left to hide behind the ironing board and a pile of old school books in the passage.
Great, I thought, he would die there and my Cleaning Fairy could sweep him
up when she arrived on Tuesday.
I turned back towards the bathroom to rinse my hands and flush the sheet of
toilet paper I had been holding.
He chose that moment to COME BACK – flashed past my foot and just brushed my toes on his way behind the loo.
Bigger scream this time. And to my shame, I ran!
Dearest Love wasn’t sure whether to laugh at me or not. Just leave it, he
said.
But I was determined to finish this monster off, once and for all.
So back I went, armed with my spray can.
I peered cautiously behind the loo, where I expected him to be.
Nothing.
I stepped backwards to get a better angle.
Crunch! Squelch!
Me screaming like a girl!
That awful feeling under my bare foot.
In my desperate effort to not leave a trail of roach-gunk, I hopped towards
the kitchen, and realised - in my state of horror - that the back door was
locked.
No time to look for keys, I prayed that the front door would be open so that
I could wipe this nastiness from my heel.
Please don’t tell the kids I rinsed Lazarus off in the pool J
It’s all over now. The memory is fading. But I’m watching where I walk ...

Recipe for Smoky Lemon Rice
1. Cook rice as you usually do.
2. When it's just about done, put the lid on and turn the heat down really low (i.e. turn the dial past "off" all the down to "high")
3. Go to your computer and log in to FB to check all those status updates while you wait for the dinner to finish off.
4. When you smell smoke, rush back to the kitchen. The rice should be nicely blackened at the bottom, and crispy at the top. If it's black all the way through, order pizza instead.
5. Scrape the crispy (not blackened) rice into a sieve or small-holed colander and rinse thoroughly.
6. Put the rice into a clean container, sprinkle with half a cup of sugar and let it rest for 5 minutes.
7. Rinse again and drain the rice, taking care to spill some of the rice into the sink.
8. Put rice into a microwave-safe container.
9. Slice a lemon into 8ths, add to rice. Season well with Lemon and black pepper seasoning, and dot with butter.
10. If the rice is a bit too dry, add a bit of boiling water.
11. Pop into the microwave and heat through.
12. Serve with overcooked meat & veg of your choice.
13. Leave your other half to pack the dishwasher, and get back to FB as soon as you can, preferably with a glass of wine in hand :-)

Listen ...
Can anyone else hear sleigh-bells?
Nope, just me. time to up the meds ;-)
To my loved-ones, liked-ones, and anyone else I know:
May you know real joy and peace as we celebrate the life of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Wherever you are, take some time to think about this Man.
If you're not one of his followers, I pray that this coming year brings a shift in perspective and a glimpse of what "we" see in Him :-)
Love ya all!

Just Chill, Jacs ;-)
God is awesome!
Let me tell you what he just did for us ...
On Thursday night the power went out, probably due to rain water getting into the outdoor fixtures. We can isolate the outside stuff like the gate and the alarm, so the power in the house was back on, and we didn't give it another thought.
Only on our way out at 12:30 today (Saturday) did we realise that the garage power has been off. That means the chest freezer, full of chickens and veggies and the Christmas roast and ice-cream, was off for a LONG time!
It's been hot, so we thought for sure that everything would be at least partly defrosted. So we hurried back from shopping to face our fear.
Well, there must have been a freezer Angel blowing cold air on it all the time, because everything, barring the ice-cream, was still solid! Not even a hint of defrosting going on.
I can't explain that - we've had freezers turn off before and stuff warms up pretty quickly. I'm sure someone will explain how the frozen chickens managed to keep their neighbours cool because the freezer was sealed and undisturbed, but even so I believe it was a little miracle!
Thank you Lord!

Just playing ... :-)
I haven't blogged in ages and I've probably forgotten how. But there's a reason for this post ...
I've just set up a Twitterfeed account so that I can post my blogs directly to Twitter and Facebook automatically. Woo-woo!! That should save some time!
Um, maybe :-)
Might also have me spending more time online writing nonsense.
Well, lets just see if this works, first. Then I can start prodding people with my opinions.
Oh, yes - happy bathday to Debbie in the US of A.
It's amazing how old people have just taken to the internet, as though they were only born 41 years ago. Mah-velous!!

Growing up is optional :-p
It's finally happening - my 40th birthday.
I didn't want a party this year, as I'm currently into the whole "save the earth" thing and I didn't want to waste any resources.
When our local primary school announced that they were celebrating their 60th birthday on the 5th - MY birthday - I saw an opportunity ...
I could have my cake (or rather, Northlands Primary's Cake) and eat it too!
So I can say i'm going big for my 40th birthday ... starting with a colourful, flag-waving, float-leading walk through the Durban North streets, and finishing with loads of food and fun activities at the school!
I'm even going to try out the "Zorb" ball, overgrown hamster that I am :-)
So if you're in the area, wave us on when we pass ... and perhaps drop in to do some bargain shopping at our fete.
It's gonna be a great day!

The Virgin Blogger
I don't talk much, but there's usually quite a bit of stuff going on in my head at any given moment.
So, why then, has it taken so long for me to "get a blog"?
I am an internet junkie, afterall. Web is my life. You can find me everywhere, from Lost Amigos, to Facebook, Twitter and even (gasp!!) MySpace.
Ah yes - procrastination! And ADD. And all my spare time spent on Twitter. And of course just the thought that "no-one really wants to hear that stuff, Jacs".

Anyway, I think I'm finally going to try this ... my 2 cents worth ... and see how it goes.
Some of it might even be interesting :-)
